Early Monday, February 27, my wife and I left for southern California. I had meeting there on Wednesday and ordinarily would have flown, but we drove the distance, having decided to take a few days to visit Death Valley National Park. We wanted to see some of the California coast and redwoods as well, though on account of the poor weather we saw less than we expected. We drove through the night to the Oregon-California border and then took the Redwood Highway (Highway 101) all the way to San Francisco. We made our first stop along the Smith River and then drove through Jedediah Smith Redwood State Forest, but only stopped for a few pictures since we had been there before. At Crescent City we came to the coast and followed it, stopping occasionally for photos. Driving through Redwoods National Park we hiked through the Lady Bird Johnson Grove before resuming our journey. These photos are of the coast and redwoods since I have far too many for a single post.
